The Tasmanian Devil: The Fast And Furious Life Of Errol Flynn
A little Tasmanian devil will do his best to help the survival of his mates.
The devil, named Errol Flynn by the film star's daughter yesterday, will help highlight the plight of the species.
Rory Flynn, 61, arrived in Hobart last week for her first visit to her famous father's birthplace.
She visited Bonorong Wildlife Park near Richmond yesterday to name a devil after her father.
The Hollywood hero of the 1930s and '40s was born at Battery Point on June 20, 1909, and starred in more than 60 movies.
Decades after his death he can still make a difference by raising the profile of the state -- and particularly the devil as a facial cancer threatens to wipe the species out.
Efforts to raise funds for research can be made through Ms Flynn's website www.inlikeflynn.com.
"It's a very proud moment for me," she said.
"If he was around, he would do the same thing and want to help in any way he could to keep these animals from becoming extinct.
"I'm a huge animal lover, so I'd like to do what I can."
Errol Flynn Society of Tasmania president Steve Randell had suggested naming a devil after the late star.
"Errol called himself the Tasmanian devil in the first chapter of his autobiography My Wicked, Wicked Ways," he said.
"It's a fitting conclusion to introduce Rory to a devil and have her name it after her father."
Errol the devil will be the mascot for Flynn's 100th birthday celebration in Hobart next year when Ms Flynn will return to the state.
A Request From Rory
Dear friends and collectors,
I have traveled to Tasmania where my father was born to bring all the memorabilia that I own to reside at the museum in Hobart where they are opening a special wing in June for the celebration of my father's 100th birthday. Everyone is invited to a week of celebration film festival etc.
My roots and ancestry go back many generations. My grandfather Prof T,T Flynn was a well-respected scientist here at the University and my grandmother’s lineage goes all the way back to the famous ship ‘Bounty’ connecting mid-shipman Edward Young, aid to Fletcher Christian as our direct descendent.
As most people know my father was buried exactly where he did NOT want to be buried by his bitter last wife who left him in an unmarked grave for 20yrs. I feel now that his final resting place will be here in his hometown where he is loved and honored. Here they have named parks after him, erected plaques, one being established in front of the state theatre, and have named awards after him in all the schools he attended.
Please if you are a collector if you could lend or donate some small thing to this museum in appreciation of the big event in June, this would of course enhance this celebration. Your precious items would be cared for ad safe under the care of the curator whose job is the Flynn exhibit at the Museum.
If you are like me you may not know where you intend to leave your memorabilia or collection, for our children sometimes do not have the same interest or love or dedication to Errol as you do.

A Daughter Remembers Errol Flynn
Several years after the death of her famous father, the teenaged Rory Flynn was discovered by the modeling world and thereafter worked as a high fashion model in New York, London and Paris for nearly a decade. Afterward, she decided to try her talents on the other side of the camera and has since traveled the world as a still photographer for the film industry. Currently, she is happily based in the Hollywood Hills, where she lives with her film producer husband Gideon Amir and their teenaged son Sean, who is carrying on the Flynn name as a successful film and television actor. So, for all the fans who were left wanting more, after Flynn’s untimely death at age 50 in 1959, The Baron of Mulholland offers a new perspective on one of filmdom’s most fascinating real-life characters.
Listen to Rory Flynn reading an excerpt from the book
An unprecedented insight into the life of the picaresque star, this fascinating documentary (narrated by Flynn contemporary Christopher Lee) features never before seen archival footage, photographs and interviews with his closest family and friends - all of whom speak candidly about Flynn's revolutionary sympathies and journalistic ambitions in addition to his notoriously decadent lifestyle.
